I hear you’re a transphobe now, father?

@goatsarah He doesn't seem to have been clear about who he doesn't want included, unless I missed it. Not that that really helps, of course. But I'd at least I'd understand how valid my own opinion on what he'd said was. I'd probably guess the same way as you, though. I'm not sure which groups there are "antagonistic" though (I had expected him to say "irrelevant").

Still,, pulling up the drawbridge when "I'm all right, Jack" has always been a core British Value, hasn't it? It's probably on the national curriculum.

@chiffchaff [tech.lgbt] It's made very clear in the comment thread. He means us.

@goatsarah I couldn't find *his* comments in Facebook, but that doesn't surprise me (either the Rev or Facebook).

I always seem to be jumping panglossian unduly optimistic interpretation recently. I first thought he meant that it should be like when there's sports competitions, you know, those streams of bunting with two dozen countries flags on them.

I was going to write something, thought of this, thought of that, but this is all too depressing.

Public

@chiffchaff @goatsarah I found him saying basically that there isn't a *consensus* that everyone should be included, so we shouldn't use this flag. Which is bollocks, isn't it? What would he think if straight people were saying there's no consensus that it's OK to be gay, so we'd better not encourage them.

He seems to be trying to weasel his way out of being called transphobic himself, while still saying it's reasonable for some people to be transphobic.

@lnr [tech.lgbt] @chiffchaff [tech.lgbt] Have seen this so many times. This is exactly how Rowling started. Within a year she was full on raving brain-worms.
Public

@lnr @chiffchaff @goatsarah There *is* (as I understand it) significant disagreement in the intersex community as to whether they want to be included. That would be my charitable interpretation.

Public

@sparrowsion @lnr @goatsarah Similarly with Black communities (BIPOC as the call it in the US: we don't seem to be as organised with our acronyms as they are over the pond, even their anarchists have a brand).

That was my first thought. *Then* I saw that he'd said "antagonistic" and other folk also did comment archaeology convincing me otherwise.

Public

@chiffchaff @sparrowsion @lnr @goatsarah One problem with the term BIPOC over here is that the people yelling about the rights of British "Indigenous" people aren't quite in the same part of the political spectrum.

Public

@mobbsy @sparrowsion @lnr @goatsarah Quite. "People of Colour" doesn't seem to have caught on over here, either. Maybe it's because it's got the kind of contorted grammar that comes with HR and train announcements. I'm happy to take direction on this, of course.

I'm mainly impressed by America's ability to turn everything into a noun with a badge and a day and a song and a flag and a page in a book of etiquette.

Okay, they then seem to mainly throw their creation into the basement and forget about it, but that *machine* which turns problems into product is quite awe-inspiring.

Public

@lnr @goatsarah It makes you wonder why churches need a weather vane, given how easily their vicars turn with the wind.

Public

@lnr @goatsarah Sorry for the daft answer. I'm only in the mood to snark and eat too much ice cream at the moment.

That was the gap between my replies. I've been to Tesco and back and bought a big tub of Häagen-Dazs "Strawberries and Cream", and I need to eat it all tonight because the way the week's going, it will probably want to invade Poland, tomorrow morning, if I don't.
