tech.lgbt Moderators
Followup: We have published a post concerning the upcoming defed from woem.men.

Basically: we've noticed a pattern of behavior, been alerted to specific posts, and have overall determined that the reactions by admins have made us determine that it would be safer for our community to defed.

https://info.tech.lgbt/2025/01/12/defederating-from-woem-men.html

tech.lgbt Moderators
tech.lgbt will be defederating from woem.men in two weeks time, on 15 January 2025.

While we have many connections of accounts between servers, we have received multiple credible reports of misconduct from the instance, including grooming and predation.

The scope goes beyond a single admin, and we feel that it is in the best interest of our members to block the entire instance, as opposed to a few individual accounts.

a fresh pup of coffee :bowie:
I have been waiting to publish and share this survey! Boosts are very appreciated! :boosts_ok_gay:

Starting today, and running through January, I am conducting an anonymous survey concerning views and expectations around transparency in moderation decisions.

This survey is available for all social media users, not just members of my instance, and not just Mastodon or fediverse users.

This has obviously been a hot button issue recently, but it is not just a reactive survey. The goal is to get as wide a range of folks to respond as possible, and to publish results and raw data for review.

This survey is taking place via Cryptpad, which does not require login.

https://pad.tech.lgbt/form/#/2/form/view/z4RFCs54TiF9MXvRSCtDrcgpKOuHj-Tj+TGNVYW7x1o/

PlasmaTrap Admin :certificate_admin:
PlasmaTrap is moving to defederate from social.nano.lgbt within the next 3 days due to their admin having a pedophilic head mate. There have been multiple cases of them flirting with minors in replies.

We have underage users on the instance; exposing them to risk like this is unacceptable. tech.lgbt Moderators
Woah! tech.lgbt has been around for seven years now. Happy anniversary! :blobfoxcheer:

This has been an amazing journey, and has become far more than we could have expected. The admin team wants to thank the entire tech.lgbt community for collaborating with us to make this small part of the fediverse. We have learned a lot about moderating in interconnected spaces, managing and scaling servers, and contributing to open source projects.

We appreciate everyone who has come along with us for the ride so far, and look forward to more years of a community that holds a special place in our hearts. Thank you :techlgbt: :heart_progress:

Spring Jo :neobun: :v_enby: 🍃
Alright, made a change to tech.lgbt that increased the media proxy ratelimits.

Basically, if you've ever opened a profile from someone on another server, went to their media tab, and suddenly half the media wouldn't load; this is that rate limit, it's been increased, you should now be able to scroll a bunch before you see it again :neocat:

Spring Jo :neobun: :v_enby: 🍃
:neocat: New update to tech.lgbt!

We now have filtered notifications, meaning you can automatically filter and manually approve DM notifications from users, such as when they're unsolicited (outta nowhere), or people who've created their account in the last 30 days, think of it as a spam folder!

This change will ALSO have DMs from muted/silenced users enter this "spam folder", meaning that they're not blackholed anymore, as they used to.

Unfortunately, there is not yet an interface to review your denied/approved filtered notifications. The information is still in the database though, and i've heard that they'll add such a review screen in the future.

This change also changes the default behaviour insomuch that you'll have to approve DMs from users that you dont follow, or toggle this policy via the web interface.
