Watched my first in the yesterday. It amuses me that I’ve seen her image such an enormous number of times in my life that I actually never really looked at her. What struck me was the things her mouth does: it has an exaggeration and slight delay that makes it seems she’s lipsyncing to her own words (not to do with technical audio choices). There was a level of camp to her acting that confused me about who’s doing the work: she, or a playing her.

I watched the film, , through a queer lens as part of a local film festival. It was fun to see how positively, wordlessly queer Dorothy and Lorelei are. Anachronistically, it’s hilarious to imagine Marilyn Monroe wasn’t the most popular and best-compensated of the two actresses.
