What was the earliest thing Google did that struck you as decidedly creepy and violating the boundaries of "Don't Be Evil?"

I don't clearly remember the order of everything without looking it up, but street view was a big one that stands out for me. Both creepy/invasive, and demonstrating massive cash expenditure on something that shouldn't be worth doing if they didn't have evil monetization in mind.

Street View is the biggest transgression nobody talks about. They collect ESSID data on the routes, and the only way to 'opt out'[1] is to rename your own fucking wifi network with a '_NOMAP' suffix. The only way to find this out is to dig deep into their documentation.

Is that compatible with the way you need to do it to opt out of Apple's FInd My iThing databases?

Public
Apple also uses the _nomap suffix, but lower case. No telling if either company's shit is case-sensitive, and of course, no impetus for them to tell us.
