Paging the Fediverse! I've been out of work since the middle of 2024 and would like to change that :-)
I'm a software engineer of more than 25 years' experience. Most recently, I have been doing back end work using TypeScript, Ruby, and Java. I've worked at an ISP, at a national broadcaster, a high-volume web SaaS provider, and a medtech startup; I've led teams, been a tech lead, and been an at-the-coalface coder.
Do you know of somewhere that could use my experience? I'm a British citizen living in Denmark, and I'd strongly prefer not to have to move. Yet.
Can you help me #GetFediHired / #FediHired? Boost please, etc. Thank you :-)
@mistergibson I would, but their contact page has git merge conflicts, and their careers page URL is apparently https://localhost:1313/careers/ , so ... yeah, there's that.
On the one hand: gosh, they could use some help. On the other: they're not making it easy!
their contact page has git merge conflicts
Holy crap, you weren't kidding. This is amazing:
<p>«««< HEAD</p>
So somehow they have a rendering pipeline that automatically converts <<<<<<< HEAD
(plain text) into "fancy" HTML, but they didn't notice that their text was all messed up.
@barubary Impressive huh? :)
@rvedotrc Look at my employer GitLab. All-remote, inclusive, and enjoyable. And regardless, good luck!
@rvedotrc Please take a look at https://www.energyhub.com/careers#open-positions to see if there's something you'd be interested in.
(YMMV but I've found it a good place to work: very smart, very nice people, a good mission, and sane, capable management. And they're remote-friendly, so you wouldn't have to move).
@rvedotrc so we were laid off around the same time, you're 22 years ahead of me in experience and neither of us has been hired yet. So much for tech jobs being the future, eh?
@rvedotrc We are looking for a Search engineer and your skillset seems to fit
@rvedotrc The folks at Internet Archive are hiring...

@rvedotrc I've really enjoyed my time at Gigs so far, and we're currently hiring a lot of new people. Most people (me included) are working remotely from Europe and North America. https://gigs.com/careers#positions
@rvedotrc @Ruth_Mottram The Royal Library is hiring a bunch of Java developers, and team lead/tech lead experience would only be a plus. Come and join us :-) https://candidate.hr-manager.net/ApplicationInit.aspx?cid=5001&ProjectId=187209&DepartmentId=6151&MediaId=5&SkipAdvertisement=False
@colinrosenthal @Ruth_Mottram Looks interesting, thanks!
@rvedotrc Good people here: https://madethis.dk/softwareudvikler
And also available positions at the broadcaster where I work: https://omtv2.tv2.dk/job/ledige-stillinger-paa-tv-2/
@rvedotrc good luck Rachel, 25 years is about when I got out of the biz...and these days I am SO glad not to be in the trenches..
@rvedotrc, CFBR, even though I don't have many connections in Denmark. Good luck!
@rvedotrc maybe time to look elsewhere than software. Many of your non-coding skills have wide applicability.
@rvedotrc Hi Rachel! My team is hiring out of Germany, I'm pretty sure we do employee of record contracts for Denmark, as we do across the EU.
We're the IAM team for phishing sim/e-learning company SoSafe. Our tech stack is Typescript/AWS/Postgres, we need senior/staff backend to bring our user mgmt, SSO, and roles & rights systems to scale to customers with 100k users.
