I am so exhausted from seeing women not be GMs in ttrpgs because they feel they HAVE to know all the rules to do it.

And I know WHY they feel this way. Hell, I know exactly how a table of "males" would react to a bad rules call, and how much worse they would be to a femme GM.

But I really want to try and find a way to get these potentially awesome GMs into girlbossing their way into these roles.

@pangoriaF I'd love to say it's not true, but having heard how reddit is towards the female players of Critrole or D20 who fumble a trivial rule compared to male players or Matt who do egregious mistakes and are left alone... yeah. Yeah... I'm happy that Marisha Ray, Aabria Iyengar or Emily Axeford don't let that keep them from GMing, but yeahhhh.

@pangoriaF I wonder if getting groups of experienced gamer women to be players for new GMs would help, or at least vetting men ahead of time to find ones who are more interested in story over mechanics? Help build up some confidence?

I didn't know all the rules when I started (and made that very clear!) but my friends were cool with that and helped me with the mechanics so I could focus on action and story.

I love seeing new folks take the big chair behind the screen to flex their creative muscles no matter who it is.

Public

@pangoriaF The irony is that there's a strong cultural trope about how girls focus a lot of their play on "pretend" and "make believe" and developing elaborate rulesets for their play.

I think it's important to emphasize that there are *no rules* in #RPG #TTRPG roleplaying #gaming

It's literally *all made up*. You are not only permitted to change the rules, you are encouraged to do so, explicitly so, from the mouth of the foremost male figure in the subculture.

Public

@gcvsa this is exactly one of the points that need to be stressed.

Quiet public

@gcvsa @pangoriaF "They are not so much rules as guidelines."
