Etymology TIL: the word "cab" (an abbreviation of "cabriolet") for a taxi comes from the Latin for "kid goat" because early cabs had springy suspension that reminded people of bouncing baby goats.

(The "cab" of a truck or train is by analogy to those early horse-drawn taxis.)

Ooh my Mastodon instance tech.lgbt has an aporagender flag emoji! :placa_apora:

OK who can help take Matt Mullenweg up on his offer to bring #Tumblr up to full #indieweb standards? cc: @humanetech

Not a joke: this is a very real opportunity... #openweb

@mikec Thanks! I had no idea this feature even existed until yesterday but I think it's the original archetypal use case!

@jenf Yeah I had never seen rel="me" before I came to Mastodon but it makes so much sense!

If you use name.pn to share your name, pronouns and pronunciation on Mastodon, you can now get the verified status for your name.pn URL. (This is a great little feature!)

To make this happen, add a link to your Mastodon profile to your name.pn "Links" section, for example: name.pn/quinn-daley

@mattedgar @ImACultHero Oh cool - that's the app I'm using. I must just not have found the feature yet!

Mastodon noob question: does Mastodon / any client support "lists" like Twitter does?

On that site I was pretty stuck on reading a custom feed of my favourite accounts rather than the main feed of everyone I followed.

Update
I wrote some short python code and got a list of 4945 names

The best was 6, and there are two groups:

1) aline, lanie, liane, linea, neila, & nelia
2) ashlie, elisha, leisha, leshia, sheila, & shlia

@slowe Yeah. I think I thought the federation of Mastodon was more close-knit than it is and it does look like lots of people are on mastodon.me.uk. I may yet move but happy to be here first!

@slowe I had got so used to having to use a "List" just to get my content in the right order. It's going to be strange being able to look at the main timeline again!

My first ever toot had better be something incredibly witty because I'm going to look back on this day for years to come.
