I went to Marginalia Website Explorer and among the first 100 random sites were four sites of guys I know. Consider this: 0 sites of gals I know, 4 sites of guys I know. Why? How? It is a mystery.
Marginalia's Website Explorer is a treasure hunting tool, though, y'all should check it out if you haven't https://explore.marginalia.nu/view
@nina_kali_nina Nah, many girls are just interested in other things.
An acquaintance of mine works in a tech company as a web-developer.
And she mentions sometimes her team consists of nine guys and one girl.
@rtlc but consider this: most people I follow on Fedi _are_ women.
@nina_kali_nina I think there is no a single explanation, but women are more social.
Whenever I go to some social club I notice it everytime.
@rtlc @nina_kali_nina Please be careful with self-fulfilling prophecies.
Plenty of IT pioneer were women, but they disappeared the moment that IT became a well-paid, relatively high-status job.
Women are being bounced away from tech education and jobs because of systemic factors and saying "girls are just interested in other things" will only further entrench these factors.
@forse @rtlc incidentally, I know a handful of brilliant women who are extremely skilled at IT/coding/etc but aren't touching engineering because it's toxic as heck. :( it's depressing to the point where I sometimes consider leaving the industry. Perhaps, it's even a question of "when" and not "if".
@nina_kali_nina @rtlc Sorry about that. =(
FWIW at my company we've been pushing to change both the culture and our hiring process (for example, we blind the reviews of code challenges) and I think it's making at least a bit of difference.
Another local company that has been doing this for much longer (and much harder than us) managed to get close to 50/50 ratio of boys to girls in tech roles. A (male) friend of mine told me it was the best job environment he's ever been.
@forse @nina_kali_nina Hey there, sorry if my comment sounded too simplistic or dismissive.
My thinking was along the lines to start a blog you:
register a domain;
choose CMS;
create a blog;
start writing.
All these can be in many cases very solitary experiences.
And as I mentioned in another post women in my opinion are better at socializing than guys.
And spending time with people in real life takes time.
IMHO
@nina_kali_nina so essentially, this is a web ring, right ?
@PypeBros kind of sort of maybe? If you consider www a web ring
@nina_kali_nina I wouldn't say that. But geocities had some webring-ish features as well as pre-google blogspot
@PypeBros marginalia isn't only about neocities, though!
@nina_kali_nina that's what it seems ... I fail to see the selection criteria so far, though ... except many many pages look like they're coming from ages ago. Not technically, but from an aesthetics or concept level.... I find it ... refreshing, somehow.
