I think that has proven to be unhealthy. IMO

I used to use reddit a lot around when I joined fedi and when I started using fedi seriously it was quite surprising to see how little I actually needed any "omniscient algorithm" to control what content I saw

agree with this. Curating your own feed is not that difficult. We have the tools. We have the network. We do not need an algo.
That lie is perpetuated by the algorithm people just trying to get you to buy more algorithm.
