Okay, migration worked this time!
I know I'm not a mystery to existing followers, but as a new user on the instance, it's #introduction time for the local timeline
I'm Jo, I work in tech. I've been a Debian Developer for 13 years, mostly Mono packaging. I've also worked on SteamOS, Edge for Linux, and my day job is weird build system stuff in .NET, especially for fringe architectures.
@directhex hiiii, cute sharks
@directhex Cool that you worked on #SteamOS. A docked #steamdeck is now my primary personal desktop. It's exciting! (I have laptops for work and projects.)
@terra given the issues of the original Steam Machines exercise (and SteamOS 1.0/2.0), I think it's fascinating to see the success this time around
Also fascinating to see how much, broadly speaking, people have accepted "immutable rootfs plus Flatpak" as a model given my previous experiences with trying to ship sandboxed apps to users
@directhex I suspect that much less of what users want is locally hosted than even 10 years ago. As long as they can install games, use peripherals, and access a browser, they are set. I want some utilities and the compatibility layer, but not much more than a typical user.
Sometimes the mouse will get captured by the wrong window or fail to rescale on display change. Still, on the whole, this has been one of the least painful desktop Linux experiences I've had.
