seriously, this only helps harassers, no one else, and it is entirely at the expense of those who are getting harassed.
This sort of thing is why I keep arguing that mastodon shouldn't get credit for being 'anti-harassment', the lead dev is actively working against it.
And yes, it is specifically @Gargron, the pull request for this was by him.
It is like watching a race to the bottom in terms of being terrible about anti-harassment features.
I suspect that @Gargron has just given up on any sort of anti-harassment for mastodon.
The newest release candidate has an update that will let people know they are blocked when they view a profile.
This is fucking basic shit, you don't let harassers know if they are having an effect, or if they are being heard or not. Why the fuck should someone I block get to know I blocked them? It just means they know 1) They had some effect and 2) The need to find a new channel for harassment.
My experience with being a girl was like this.
Imagine you're born wearing an invisible mask. You naturally assume everyone else is wearing a mask, too.
Every time someone tells you how to act or how to be you add some paint to the mask. The mask getting heavier each time.
Eventually, 2 weeks ago for me, the mask starts suffocating you. You start drowning. It's literally killing you. But you don't know it's the mask doing it because the mask was always there.
After breaking down completely, and still not being sure why, you take off the mask.
And then, the next moment, I was trans.

Take my hand and let us call each other sister.
Let us be like flowers who happen to grow
side by side in a ditch, we gleam
in the morning dew our petals almost touching,
the lost things who grasp for us
see us as one. We are always measured by the wants of others.
We are so bright.
I wish to know you by the hands of your friends
and how they touch your spine, your hair
as you embrace goodbye and hello.
We are warehouse crew and city pigeons,
LDR trans relationship stuff, mh (-)
My long-distance enbyfriend of nearly a year "joked", in complete deadpan, about being a trans chaser last night, and quickly had me in tears.
I have no way of knowing whether or not it's true, or was simply the poorest possible joke they could make in that particular context. (And it was, no doubt about it.)
I am feeling betrayed and hurt, and sorry for continuing to be the same naive, overly trusting fool I'll probably be for the rest of my life.

so this month just got worse. after missing work from illness and snow, i am out MY ENTIRE CAR because the motor failed last night
it's not worth replacing (too expensive), so i have to rely on family members and the transit system until we work out a solution
if you're able, you can help by buying a tarot reading through my blog as linked, donating via paypal, or just boosting this post
Townhall; Anti-queer Violence; PDX
Update for folks who don't know:
There's been a string of attacks (9 last I saw) in PDX targeting queer & trans people. This has generally involved approaching queer folks alone or in pairs from behind w/a baseball bat & striking them & are traveling in a tan van.
Additionally, the local police have been shown to text Patriot Prayer leaders, warning them about leftist activity, & are avoiding action/denying the attacks are happening
so yeah. just not hating marginalized groups isn't enough - the world has to actively focus on making itself a place that everyone can live in.
doing things in the mindset that "if it works for 90% of everyone, it's fine" really needs to stop. majorities aren't the only ones who matter. *people* are important. build a world that all people can live in.
Just a shy middle-aged disabled trans ex-devops country-dwelling goof.
