(・ω・)ノ hello!

my name is Amy, & I am very new to mastodon. I joined @tech.lgbt because I’m a bisexual front-end developer, so it sounded apt hah

When I’m not breaking the front-end of websites and software, I like to draw comics, make zines, and wander around in nature.

Currently, I post comics on instagram: instagram.com/_aimaloo/

^ working on syndicating from my website, eventually.

As of tomorrow, I will be offline for 10 days to participate at a silent meditation center. ttyl! 🤐

I think I’ll be forever chasing the high of the moment when ✨it finally works✨

Programming is such an emotional roller coaster...

Some days, I can’t imagine doing anything else. Merrily solving problems, feeling productive with a sense of purpose.

Other days, like today, I wonder how there was ever a time I felt competent. Running into pitfall after pitfall, slowly crawling forward. =_=;

does anyone have any recommended resources for studying React? feeling a bit behind these days.

My sister & I are going on a month-long hike in June, I am so excited! ...but it will also mean having to give up my duolingo streak. :blobcatmeltcry:

Do you make zines? I host a monthly Zine Party where we hang out on zoom and talk about what we're working on. The next one is May 10th, 7:30pm CDT. R.S.V.P. at zine.party

#zine #zines

Question for fediverse peeps: I've been streaming my livehack-on-Firefox show to Twitch, YouTube and Air Mozilla for a while now. I have the recordings stored on YouTube.

Are there fediverse options that it'd make sense for me to stream to / store on as well?

me, a simple front-end dev: but what do I do with a POST request? where do I put it??

my sister, just graduated from code school: ...you mean like a database?

:owo_thonk: oh, right. lol.

As one of the main Mastodon developers, I can't promise you that Mastodon will be a complete and exact Twitter replacement for you, but it may fit your use-cases, at least it does for me.

Just keep in mind that it is not exactly the same thing, some core design decisions are different (there isn't an unique centrally-governed website, but many interconnected servers operated by different individuals and organizations) and thus the tradeoffs can be different as well.

While I personally don't think Mastodon should aim at being an exact replacement to Twitter, I do hope Mastodon can be useful to more people wanting an alternative to Twitter! And I know there are lots of room for improvement, on things we do know, and on things we don't.

Also keep in mind that Mastodon is developed by only two core developers payed through a non-profit funded through sponsorship, grants and donations, so please be patient!

kind of seems like m*sk is talking about mastodon? weird.

still figuring out the whole mastodon thing -- do I create a separate account to post art (like at @mastodon.art?) is that how we do things?

...idk how social media works, I never have.

starting to cobble together an indieweb POSSE (Publish on your Own Site, Syndicate Elsewhere) setup, suggestions welcome. Currently looking at indieweb.org/POSSE indieweb.org/Mastodon

Additionally, the UI for direct messages feels a bit confusing. When clicking "Direct messages" it took me a moment to realize that the blank screen was intentional. 🤔 I think adding a compose button on that page would do a world of good.

It’s also odd (and potentially panic-inducing) to see direct messages in-feed, imo.

Super shocking to learn that Mastodon’s DM’s are not encrypted. 😬

Not suggesting nefarious intent, but this critical info absolutely needs to be made obvious to users.
