Hey everyone! It’s my first toot? Been in the progress of getting away from all tech platforms that don’t really align with my tech ethics. Recently removed myself completely from Google and still working on self hosting everything I can!

Been learning how to draw. Learning Linux. Learning cyber security stuff and enjoying every minute. Been sober from league for a year and happily playing games to completion now. Hope to enjoy my time here!

@Turnbomb Howdy, and welcome to Mastodon! If you like self-hosting, the Fediverse is definitely the place for that!

Anything in particular you've been drawing / playing recently?

Public

@RainDragon drawing just been doing random doodles. I finished a book on drawing for 30 days to learn some basics.
Gaming I’m struggling between Persona 3 and Yakuza Like a dragon as the next game I get into. Plus playing Tekken 8 and Rivals of Aether 2 for little matches here and there!

@lemba thank you!

@Turnbomb@tech.lgbt heyyyy! Welcome to Fediverse 🤗😊 Self-hosting is fun! Lately I do that too.
What kind of services do you want to replace with your own?

Public

@nev

I have been hosting my own Plex Server for a while now. From my personal machine to a NAS that I turned into a Proxmox.

Immich is a new add to self hosting. Got a docker instance and Minecraft server.

Thinking about hosting my own RSS reader. But don't know if I want to deal with the networking requirment to use it outside of my network. There is a lot!

Welcome!

As a fellow noobie, may I suggest a great account to follow?
@FediTips

Very informative on all things "fediverse" and a fantasticly useful website.

@TimePencil

Thank you! I was also interested in joining the infosec.exchange server. But my understanding is that is not necessary? One server account is fine?

Quiet public

@Turnbomb

One can "migrate" one's "account" to pretty much any appropriate "instance" or server.

I was originally on the default mastodon.social instance. I migrated to infosec.exchange as it allows more than 500 characters in toots.

(FediTips provided INVALUABLE advice on how to migrate...)

One "server account" is fine, as that's the beauty of "federation".

However, some people like to run multiple accounts for various reasons.

One could, for example, use a single app for multiple accounts (in most cases) or use different client apps for each account that may have different interests...
... e.g. Fedilab for one's Tech interests (first account) and Tusky for one's basket weaving interests (second account...)

If you follow those on infosec.exchange you'll see their toots in your own account, and vice versa.
