Stop running Public Transport like a business
@ShadowJonathan@tech.lgbt say it with me
The point of public transit is not to make a profit
@ShadowJonathan Can we all shout that from the roofs, please?
Something that is named public transport short IMO also be publicly funded. It shouldn't have to be profit orientated and should be considered a basic commodity which every citizen must be able to afford.
Simply spoken: make it free.
The people in charge who spend millions on maintaining and expanding car infrastructure should be legally obligated to spend the majority of their funds on expanding public transport instead.
A car might provide freedom, but it also introduces new dependencies.
Insurance, fuel, maintenance, parking space and the time you spend in traffic jams are all things you don't have to worry about with decent public transport which actually lets you go places you need to go to.
The more cars we can get off the streets, the more livable our neighborhoods can become.
Car as the default is lobby driven development which needs to be reversed. Enough.
Let's try something else and see if it can be better.
@ShadowJonathan what about "public transport" to private places (such as school buses)
@ShadowJonathan Stop pretending public services are businesses challenge 2023
@ShadowJonathan yeah. Bus service is a social good that guarantees fuller employment. I was 26 before I could afford my first car (the early 90s sucked!).
