This cold winter, with all these polar vortex incursions, is costly even for an efficient home. Approx $500 a month would be spent on electricity if it weren't for solar and net-metering.

The strongest vortex of the year is starting today, with below 0f expected. I bet we approach $30 per day this week.

It's now -2.9f. The indoor temp is 72f+ and the HVACs haven't stopped running since before midnight. 158kWh in 24 hours, and counting. No solar gain, covered in snow. It IS melting though and my wife said she might go try to clear some ground mount panels.

@Lydie Our house is very well insulated and sealed, and passive/active solar (enerjazz.com/house). It's cold (for us) this morning at 15ºF. We tend to peak at about 35kWh/day, which is about $5/day. Our small PV system keeps us close to net zero for the year.
