I use an old phone for IoT things. it's full of stupid apps and it never leaves my couch, so they can spy on that
If I ever write a book, it'll be on my IBM XT. It turns on, and works. No logging into anything, no pending updates, no subscriptions, no surveys, no spying. My 80s PCs are more ready for uninterrupted work than anything modern. Sad isn't it?
@Lydie preferably on its own vlan with a dns sinkhole choking it further
@Lydie I dread getting a new car. Wish some decent people could build an electrical car with gokart like features. Don’t want to subscribe or touch screens.
@Lydie And I don’t want to complete a survey.
@Lydie Also, every piece of technology: "Oh, you don't want all that? Absolutely no problem, I'll just ask again tomorrow, kthxbye"
@Lydie This is especially true for medical devices. Especially the T-slim X2, that mostly produces false positive alerts that cannot be shut off or silenced. Preferrably in the middle of the night.
@Lydie Take it back. And protect yourself. Check out my blog (I do not monetize the content. Just Public Service Announcement. )

This reminds me of how when YouTube started out, you couldn't go beyond 3 min or so for uploads and I remember thinking over time how it was amazing seeing them increase the limit. Now somehow we're back to short videos.
@Lydie Peertube is this very thing. Unless you want to post videos, no account required.
@Lydie This goes so hard. Seriously!
@Lydie It probably also has no networking, so no distractions from Social media. What a productivity boost!
@Lydie I'm really sad my M240 had a battery leak, it's a great machine.
I always joke that for what I use computers nowadays I could be 80% productive in DOS.
