Police have been ticketing cyclists who use the pedestrian signal when it's safe while ignoring cars and trucks creating unsafe conditions - and they're doing it in the name of bike safety
@LilahTovMoon In Irvine, CA I've seen the police block the bicycle lane near an intersection so they can ticket cars moving over too early to make a right-hand turn, and wind up backing up cars on the right for a whole block and making the bicycle lane useless and unsafe for that stretch.
@LilahTovMoon I’ve seen this too. They ticket cyclists going through and all-walk, while people double park in the bike lane.
When you ask then they say it is “in the name of safety.”
We should write to the city council.
@LilahTovMoon So, work on your rolling dismount -- I've done that right in front of Cambridge cops in the last month, I think at that very intersection -- and work on your malicious compliance. Anywhere that there's a sharrow, be sure you ride in the sharrow. Be sure to stop at stops if there is a car behind you, foot down, look for cross traffic, safety first. Etc.
