Does anyone know of an image file format where the alt text can be embedded in the file itself and then read by other platforms?

Is this possible already with common image file formats?

I’ve long wondered why this isn’t more widespread, we’ve had Exif metadata forever that could be extended for this.
So, it’s possible but not widespread, I guess?
