So it looks like Amazon has its tentacles ready to take over Rust.

The company is slowly adding its own members to the Rust team in an attempt to leverage governance. Amazon employees are badmouthing the original Rust team, and articles are being released to manufacture consent for Rust being an Amazon project.

Capital tryna take away my gay crab language.

@6EQUJ5 I feel bad that a part of me is slightly because I don't like rust much lol

@6EQUJ5 Much as I dislike the language, FOSS shouldn't have this happen to it. Ever.

@6EQUJ5 I'm not a Rust fan, but I definitely dislike Amazon conquering everything in its path. Amazon's past actions indicate that that is what they intend to do with everything they touch. tell amazon to just fucking fork it and make their own spawn of satan.

Fuck amazon.

@6EQUJ5 I fucking hate this, but as with everything that fucking eldritch monstrosity does, I don't think there's anything we can do about it 😔

Depends, anyone who is a rust dev can have some weight in the discussion/decision process. And anyone can contribute since it's open source. That's how the amazon people got in in the first place.

@6EQUJ5 If they want it, they'll do all they can to get it.

@6EQUJ5 They haven't yet figured out how to write a language that could kill Rust. Because... look at how they build their stuff. Geez. No wonder.

@6EQUJ5 Steve said “the core team has become less relevant”, but when Mara says the same it is badmouthing?

They do not appear to “take Amazon’s principles and claim that they’re Rust’s. ”, from the linked article:

“Editor’s note: A previous version of the article correctly stated that the Rustacean Principles were modeled after Amazonian tenets, but unintentionally may have implied that Amazon was somehow responsible for Rust development.”

I do not think that Twitter thread is an accurate description of the situation.

Amazon, rust

@6EQUJ5 fuck :( I should've known Amazon making linux kernel in rust designed for cloud hosting was a bad omen
